The Boston Celtics are considering significant changes to their roster after a disappointing start to the season.

The “big three” of Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett could broken up via trade if the team finds a deal to its liking.

General manager Danny Ainge said he isn’t giving anyone away, but would certainly have to pull the trigger on a trade that would allow the team to be a contender for the next decade.

Ainge realizes that all three veterans aren’t getting any younger and the injuries are starting to pile up, and you have to wonder if they are a legitimate title contender at all this year.

At the same time, Ainge knows there is a lot of the season left to play and doesn’t want to jump to any conclusions after just a quarter of the season.

Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’ Neal has announced that he will retire from the NBA after 19 seasons in the league.

O’ Neal played for a number of teams during his time in the NBA including the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Celtics.

O’ Neal’s best days were in Los Angeles and Orlando, although he was able to win an NBA title with the Heat.

He goes down as one of the greatest centers to ever play the game, and the Lakers have already announced that they will retire his jersey.

O’ Neal struggled through the 2010-2011 season, battling injuries and seeing very little playing time. He was hoping to win at least one more title, and those close to him believe he wanted to one-up Kobe Bryant, who he has feuded with since his time in LA.

Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers will return to the team for another season and then some after signing a six-year contract with the organization.

The deal is said to be one of the highest-paid contracts for coaches in the NBA right now. Industry sources believe that the deal is worth close to $7 million per season.

Rivers almost didn’t return to the Celtics this season because he wanted to spend more time with his son, Austin, who was going to a high school senior at the time.

Austin was actually one of the top high school basketball players in the country and is heading to Duke in the fall. He is only expected to be at Duke for one season before making the jump to the NBA, and he signed off on his Dad returning to the Celtics.

Boston felt the need to act quickly and shove big dollars toward Rivers because the Los Angeles Lakers were expected to make a major play at him with the impending retirement of Phil Jackson.
